Welcome to the First Presbyterian Church of Edgewood!
All lessons, recitals, workshops, and other studio events take place at the First Presbyterian Church of Edgewood, a fantastic organization and community resource. I LOVE teaching here because of how kind, generous, and inclusive the staff and community are.
I feel comfortable welcoming students of all races, gender identities, sexualities, cultures, and nationalities to this space because of the community that the leadership have created at this Church. I am not religious, but I do feel comfortable spending time here and attending community events outside of my designated teaching hours.

All recitals take place in the beautiful Sanctuary where students can celebrate the progress that they have made that semester. I believe performing regularly is an important part of developing as a flutist. As such, I offer two studio recitals a year, one in December and one in May.
Student participation is voluntary and included with the price of tuition. Students can look forwarded to being joined by our studio accompanist on a gorgeous grand piano that is regularly tuned and well-maintained.
I always encourage students and families to view performing as more of a "show and tell." Performances aren't deadlines by which we should be prepared to present a finish product...they are a stop along the way in our journey as flutists. A performance is an opportunity to share and celebrate what you learned that semester with friends, families, and fellow fluters. Perfection is not necessary-- just a positive attitude and love for the music! :)

Students can also look forward to participating in a special annual Spring workshop! Sometimes this is a masterclass where students play solos for a guest teaching artist. Students play carefully selected solos at my invitation to get a different prospective from another instructor.
Other workshops have featured Eurhythmics movement classes to target rhythm and steady beat keeping as well as introductions to Alexander Technique to explore essential concepts like breathing and posture. Most recently, my students enjoyed an introductory class to shakuhachi playing.
I try to mix it up, and I LOVE asking students what they'd like to learn next when deciding who to bring in!
